Short Circuit

Short Circuit is a 1986 science fiction comedy film directed by John Badham and written by S.S. Wilson and Brent V. Friedman. The story follows a military robot named Johnny Five that becomes self aware after being struck by lightning and escapes from the laboratory where it was created. The robot encounters a young woman named Stephanie Speck who works for a robotics company and they develop a friendship as Johnny Five learns about human emotions and language. The military pursues the robot to retrieve and destroy it leading to a series of comedic chase sequences and confrontations. The film blends humor with a gentle exploration of what it means to be alive. Notable scenes include Johnny Five using a laser to draw a heart shape and his attempts to understand human customs. The cast includes Ally Sheedy as Stephanie Steve Guttenberg as Ben and the voice of Frank Welker as Johnny Five.
