Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is an action adventure game released for the Sony PlayStation 2 in the United States in 2004. The game follows Harry Potter as he returns to Hogwarts for his third year and deals with the escape of Sirius Black. Players explore Hogwarts castle and surrounding areas using a third person perspective casting spells solving puzzles and engaging in magical duels. The game features a robust magic system that allows players to cast a variety of spells such as Expelliarmus and Patronus while also using items like the Time Turner to manipulate time. The graphics present detailed environments of Hogwarts with interactive objects and secret passages. The audio includes voice acting from the film cast and an orchestral score that captures the atmosphere of the series. The gameplay blends exploration spell casting and mini games such as Quidditch matches and Care of Magical Creatures lessons. The title was classified by the user as a 3rd Person Adventure and this classification is appropriate because the player controls Harry from behind the camera while navigating the world. The game was added to the website iOctavio.com on March 6 2005. Highlights include the ability to transform into a stag Patronus to repel Dementors the use of the Time Turner to rewind actions and the immersive recreation of iconic scenes from the film such as the Shrieking Shack confrontation. The game received generally favorable reviews for its faithful representation of the source material and its engaging third person adventure gameplay. The player can also interact with magical creatures such as Hippogriffs and Dementors and can collect magical ingredients to brew potions. The level design encourages backtracking to discover hidden collectibles and secret rooms. The game includes a tutorial mode that teaches basic spell casting and movement controls. The storyline is presented through cutscenes that use footage from the movie combined with original animation. The soundtrack features themes composed by John Williams and other composers from the film series.
